How to apply filter for Moss 2007 in 1st List for getting output in 2nd List? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Friends,

Can someone suggest me steps for filtering in Lists

    Scenario is-

I have 2 lists in 1st list 1 column is present which is look up in another list when i enter value in 1st list and say...ok i save data and navigate into another list and i get that value in list2(as field is look up) but my requirement is if i enter A(e.g.) value and navigate into 2nd list only A should come not other entered values but it is look up so it gives all valus as drop down , how can i achieve this? i mean when i say ok in 1st list i should save that value and only that value should come in 2nd list not others.
is this possible by query string?
    if yes
then what are the steps for query string in moss 2007 or designer ........for filtering in 1st list

Hope you got the same what i said :)

Thank you very much for your help

  • OOTB their is no way to achieve this. you can use the filtered lookup field type for details follow the link provided below

  • Hi Ashutosh,

If i download this package then also i need to write sp query in sp query how to write condition for filter where my columns are-

    ID, Name(look up) ,Number

i want whose id is max only that single name shud come in drop down or the last entered value in List 1 (Name ) should come in List2 Name

  • Hi,

You can apply connecting the webparts to get it done.

    Refer this:

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-server-help/connect-data-in-web-parts-HA010024105.aspx

I hope this will help you out.

  • my above solution was for filtered lookup not generic lookup.

Below Rahul has also mentioned a solution which you can think of but it would take more of development effort.

  • Hi Ashutosh,

It does not involve any development work.

You just need to configure through UI nothing else. No code deployment.

  • Hi,

Yes add list mean add list viewer webpart.

You will get all lists and libraries listed under first section of add new webpart pop up? Are you not getting so? If not then click on ADvanced then select list and Libraries.

I hope this will help you out.

  • hi Rahul i follow all steps in list 2 , list1 added as web part then created connection but all values are cuming although filter sign is cuming in List 2 but y all values are cuming i think here only radio button selected values(from list 1) should come ...........

and here also i cant apply filter for my appropriate condition ID should be maximum so i think my requirement should be implemented by another way

  • As far as my understanding goes best way is to use the filtered look up field suggested by me above or create a custom web part which behaves the way you want :)
