Duplicate first names with Skype for Business contacts RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

We have had an ongoing issue with Skype for Business contacts where some users' first names appear twice, but only in the iPhone address book (for every iPhone we've checked) or Skype for Business phone app (if installed, which is very few iPhone users).  I am not sure if this also affects Android users, because we haven't been able to reproduce it on those phones; however, there has been no option to choose Skype for Business contacts in the default contacts application.  Note that some of the below steps were stabs in the dark since the issue seems to be with the phone and is not seen on the PC client.

    • The contacts show up on the local PC client correctly.
    • We have tried factory resetting phone(s)
    • We have tried "Delete my Sign-in Info" from the local PC.  This does in turn refresh contacts on the phone client, but eventually the double-first--names appear again.
    • We have tried deleting the entire sip profile from the local PC at \Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync

We are using Lync 2013 and Exchange 2010 at this time (which I am told the company will be upgrading supposedly this year).

    • In iPhone contacts some names would appear something like "Bob Bob Smith" instead of "Bob Smith".  All correct names appear as "First Last" and not "First First Last"
    • In the Skype for Business iPhone app, searching for "smith" would return "Bob Bob Smith" as an entry.  All correct entries appear as "First Last" and not "First Fist Last"
    • Using the Skype for Business 2015 Windows client (15.0.4893.1000 currently, but this has been going on for a VERY long time) it shows up as "Smith Bob".  In this client, all correct entries appear as "Last First".
    • In Microsoft Outlook, the entry appears as "Smith Bob", but when looking at the notes for the contact it clearly states that the user's name was updated to "Smith Bob"  from "Bob Bob Smith".  In this client, all correct entries appear as "Last First

Note: I tried to attach images, but apparently my account hasn't been verified.

  • We still have the same issue, but due to all of the existing Skype-related tasks, this has become relatively low priority, so I am marking this as answered.  Thank you.

  • Hi menestrello,

By your post, we know this issue just occur on a few iPhone address book (if I misunderstand, please be free to let me know). If that, we suggest you do the following steps to troubleshoot this issue:

    1. Run the following command to update address book: Update-CsAddressBook
    2. Re-run “Request, Install or Assign Certificates” on FE server
    3. Re-import the certificate for reverse proxy server
    4. Check if there are any errors in application log and post them to us for troubleshooting
    5. Try to update all Skype for business server to the latest, and try to restart reverse proxy server

    Best Regards,

  • Hello!

I am running into the same issue, but it does not include mobile devices. I have a user that when searching in Outlook 2016 on 365 for contacts by name, the first name will duplicate. Same thing happens when he tries to search for a contact in Skype for Business. I only have 1 user out of 1000+ that is having this issue.
