Co-existence with 2007 UM RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there - Currently we run a pure 2007 Exchange environment (with UM) and want to upgrade the email side of things to 2013. There is a separate project for upgrading UM. We have one CAS/HT, one MBX and one UM server. UM is integrated with the Office’s VOIP system based on Microsoft’s Office Communicator System 2007 R2. I would like to install Exchange 2013 and migrate CAS/HT services and the users over to the 2013 MBX server. How does this affect the UM that's installed? The goal with UM is to upgrade it to Lync 2013 but at a later date. Will UM just keep on running when we begin to migrate users over to the 2013 mailbox server?

    Many thanks,

    Tony

  • Sorry, no.  You'll need to upgrade UM at the same time users are moved into the 2013 mailboxes, otherwise when you try to leave a voicemail for a user on the 2013 side, you'll hear an error.  This role will coexist on the 2013 mailbox servers and shouldn't be too awful to implement.
