Cluster Disk detached upon a disk failure RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello

    here is the scenario :

We are using windows 2012 R2 Storage Space and we have 5 Virtual Disks in total .
We created 5 CSVs out of these 5 virtual disks .
A Hyper-v Cluster is running in the environment .

There was a disk failure today ( one disk failure) ; storage space has 24 disks ; 2-way mirrored.
what happened was that 4 CSVs went offline . when we looked in detail ; 4 Virtual disks got detached .

    • we couldn't attach virtual disks using command line Connect-VirtualDisk ; it was giving Access-Denied error.
( even from the node that had write access to storage pool )
    • Finally we rebooted and system came backup with all drives attached. this cause 100 VMs to be useless during the outage.

    Questions :

Does Cluster manage virtual disks now that we have Microsoft cluster in the picture ? is that why we got those access denied errors ?

why 4 of 5 were detached ; one disk stayed up the entire time. !! any ideas ?

  • Correct failover cluster manages the clustered storage pools

Just running connect-virtualdisk on the owner node unfortunately will not work, as will give Access Denied
