Microsoft Edge run maximized - Mandatory Profile RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are using mandatory profiles and what i would like to do is when a student opens Microsoft Edge, that it would run maximized at the first run, for all other programs this is not an issue by edting the shortcut to maximized in the %AllUsersProfiles%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs location.

But apparently this does not work for Microsoft Edge as it runs differently (protocol based)

We use LayoutModification.xml to give every student a default Start Menu template.

Every time a user logs off no settings are saved because of the mandatory profile, so opening Edge and set it to maximized is not saved.

  • Yes, for your scenario, traditional shortcut method is no longer effective, please refer to this case for a hint.

  • Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work. The script does not start Edge maximized, it does start Edge though. But this is beside the fact that it's not easy to make a ps1 script work flawlessly winthin Start Menu including an icon.

Does anyone has a clue how to get Edge to run maximized for users without a network profile? Default profile also doesn't do the trick...

I think only really hacky options are left.

Something like AutoIT would allow you to launch Edge and then send it a maximise window command. This allows it to open in whatever default position it wants, and then corrects it afterwards, rather than trying to get it to default to what you want in the first place.

Microsoft's ScriptIT utility would allow you to do something similar, although it's quite old now.
