dpmsync -sync --> running for more than a day, how long should it take? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I reinstalled DPM after I was unable to get several protected volumes to move to consistent replicas.  This happened after a hard drive failed in a NAS box that was used for storage via iSCSI.  Even though the NAS box (RAID5+Spare) recovered as it should, DPM would not find the allocated storage for some volumes.

Anyway, after trying everything else I could think of, I uninstalled DPM, deleted the database, reinstalled DPM, and used dpmsync -restoredb to restore the database from a recent backup.

I then started dpmsync -sync.  I get the two lines at startup indicating that the program at least started but then nothing.  The cursor is solid at the bottom of the command prompt window (which was opened with elevated permissions).

This was two days ago.  How long should it run?  The restored database was 10GB.  I'd really like to have access to my year's worth of protected data.

    Thoughts anyone?

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

DpmSync calls the method Synchronize Agents which triggers agent refresh job for each PS sequentially. This method waits indefinitely for the job to complete. If one of the agent refresh job hangs, DPMsync will hang and never complete. Killing it and restarting it will not fix the issue unless the PS side issue is fixed.

To prevent DpmSync from hanging, disconnect the network cable before running DPMSYNC.
