Lync integration with Avaya IPO/Avaya Communication Manager

Question
-
Hey everyone!
I've been deploying Microsoft Lync in a company here in Brazil, and now we would like to integrate it with our telephony system. We have an Avaya Communication Manager as our PBX. We also have an Avaya IPO-500[10.0(44)], which might be useful if we need to make a SIP trunk.
I've read some stuff about how to integrate with Communication Manager, but in this case we would need another hardware called "SES". So, the best option is the IPO.Can anyone help me in this case?
Thanks in advance!
Best regards!

I don't think that IPO is supported for direct SIP to Lync. That's not to say it won't work but it is not a supported configuration.
SES will give you a supported configuration but I'd guess that it will be expensive.
The other alternative would be to get a supported 3rd party gateway to provide the SIP integration. If you are just looking for calls to flow between your Avaya environment and the Lync environment, you may find this is a much cheaper solution.
The Open Interoperability Program provides you with details of the supported infrastructure that can connect to Lync: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/lync/gg131938

Maybe it's not supported but it seems to work. Audiocode will be supported but you will also have to manage the routing of phone numbers.
SO I would go to the two options IPO now and audiocodes for later.

Hi,
It can integrate with Lync via a gateway though it is not a official supported scenario. Please refer the following post:http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-GB/ocsvoice/thread/3af14bd5-7085-42aa-ba99-5e864e582b0a

I don't know Avaya devices but as I see the IPO-500 can make sip trunk, create a sip trunk between it and your Lync servers. check this : http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ocsinterop/thread/8ecd5a84-8f1a-4f96-97ff-e3c29eeedc97

I believe it is possible to use IPO, since there's a documentation using it with Microsoft OCS. (https://devconnect.avaya.com/public/download/interop/OCSR2-IPO-PSTN.pdf)
In the next few days we are going to have a 3rd party gateway, from audiocodes, but we should be able to use IPO too. The configuration in the documentation above seems to be very simple, but I might be getting lost at some point, probably when configuring the routes or the phone numbers.Thursday, August 9, 2012 1:26 PM -
Hi Mauricio,
The OCS documentation is all well and good but you have installed Lync, right?
I didn't say it wasn't possible to use IPO, but I did say it was not a supported configuration with Lync.
Some of the supported infrastructure did change when we moved from OCS to Lync. I would recommend going down the 3rd party gateway as you are with Audiocodes though.

Just to update you, guys. I could integrate Lync with Avaya CM, using a direct SIP trunk using TCP. It works fine!Monday, August 20, 2012 1:36 PM
