Versions are the same yet error persists: The specified SPContentDatabase has been upgraded to a newer version of SharePoint. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a backup content DB in SQL Server.  I ran a query on it and it gives me SP version from dbo.Versions = XXX

My SharePoint Central Admin also gives me version XXX

When I attempt to add the backup Content DB to my Web Application, I get

"The specified SPContentDatabase=...  has been upgraded to a newer version of SharePoint. Please upgrade this SharePoint application server before attempting to access this object. "

But the version numbers I just verified, and they are exactly the same.

Anyone have advice on this?  Thanks in advance.

Answers

  • The problem was a faulty database and a generic error message.

The solution was a fresh copy of the database.

  • On central admin, are you checking the version number on "Upgrade and Migration" -> "Manage Patch Status"?

  • I checked the version numbers by querying the database on the dbo.Versions table.  I also verified that they were the same in the registry and in the Central Administration under Servers in Farm.

  • I am beginning to think that this error may be from a third party service, web part or other that is in the backup db.  Will SharePoint give this error if it tries to add a Content DB with an un-supported third party extension?
