Automate Import of Actual Hours into Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am using Project Server 2007.  I have a client who would like to automate the import of actual hours into Server.  Currently this is a 2-step process.  Team members submit their timesheets, and then the timesheets are routed to their functional managers for approval.

Once approved, the project manager must import the changes into Server.  Is there a way to automate this process so that once approval is received from the managers, the timesheets are automatically imported into Server without any action from the project manager?   When the project manager goes into Server, there will be some sort of notification to let the pm know that timesheets have been imported.  The project manager will then review the updates, analyze the impacts, etc. before committing the updates in Server.

    Thanks!

  • Hello CJMaldonado,

Under the "Approvals" and "Task Updates" of PWA, you can select "Manage Rules" under the "Action" button and create a rule to automatically update  the project.

However, as a good best practice, a project manager should also, take time each week and review the updates and push all task that are incompleted or non-started up to the status line, so the schedule will reflect the true reality of the project schedule.

    Cheers!
