trouble restoring files with files and settings transfer wizard {windows xp] RRS feed

  • Question

  • I ran Files and Settings Transfer Wizard under Windows XP Home Ed. SP3 and saved files to an external USB  hard drive.  It created a 52,421,569 KB file called USMT2IMG.DAT.  I reinstalled the same version of Windows and tried restore files.  I get a Files and Settings Transfer Wizard dialog box that says, "The location that you specified does not contain stored information.  Please type a valid folder path into the edit box.  If you entered a path to a folder on a removable disk, the disk must be in the drive."  I have also tried using Windows XP professional with SP3, which didn't work.  I then tried a fresh install of XP Prof SP2, same error.  I tried XP Prof. SP1; still didn't work.  My sister will not be happy with losing her music, videos, word documents, and medical and tax information.  Help!
