Office 365 Tenant to Tenant Migration Address book issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I have a bit of a problem regarding our up coming migration. At the moment we have acquired another company who has its own AD and is using Microsoft sync (inbuilt) to sync with their Office 365 account in the cloud where all their mailboxes reside (nothing onsite). we currently have an on premise exchanged which is hybrid and we are using ADConnect to sync our AD, all is working fine regarding moving mailboxes into the cloud from our current on premise exchange however after testing creating a cloud account(no on premise AD account) we have realised it doesn't sync to our on premise GAL.

Now we have a problem we are doing a Tenant to Tenant Migration so using the guides for the software we exported the users from Office365 and imported them into our 365 to start the migration after we have migrated them we will use our AD connect to sync their AD to the cloud (we have a forest trust so we can connect using our AD connect) this is why we didn't create them on our AD, how can we sync the cloud to our GAL or can ADconnect do this for us.  We cannot delete the users as the Pre-migration has started.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Mahesh,

Because the AAD Connect is only one way sync from local AD  to Azure AD, thus the account created in Office 365 don't sync back to local AD. We need to create local AD object manually.

Also, one SMTP domain can be verified in one Office 365 tenant at same time, therefore the steps to migration between Office 365 tenant is very complex.

  • Hi Alan

The tenant to tenant migration we are ok with, we are using MigrationWiz and are exporting and importing emails address via powershell. but accessing the cloud accounts is the problem.

would you know if the AD object has to be a user or can it be a contact we will need to access their calendar

, also we are added the trusted AD to our AD connect to sync to the cloud aswell but we are not sure which UPN it will use (as theirs is a different domain name) and also which password will it sync? from our domain or theirs.

just to let you know our 2 forests have a trust are connected via VPN. we will add that domain to our AD connect after moving the tenant domain to ours

One consultant said that ADconnect will create the contacts in the address book after connecting to their domain however we think that's never going to work as it doesn't intergrate into our local exchange.

    Thank you

    Mahesh
