• Question

  • When I am trying to restore my computer at an earlier point I receive the message ''No restore points have been created on your computer's system drive''. Trying to create one through system protection option I receive the message ''The restore point could not be created for the following  reason : The specified object was not found (0x80042308).

I would like to ask if there is any solution to the problem.

  • Hi,

I would suggest you to follow these steps and check if it helps.

    1. The error 0x80042308 is related to Volume Shadow Copy.

Check if the Volume Shadow Copy service is running on your computer or not.

    To check for the same,

    a. Click ‘Start’, type ‘services.msc’ and hit Enter.
    b. Locate “Volume Shadow Copy” and check if the service is started.
    c. If not ‘Start’ the service.

If the service was already started, I’d suggest you to stop the service and restart the same. Repeat the above steps for ‘Windows Backup service”, too. Shadow copy errors are often caused by disk problems (usually minor) which check disk will find and correct.

    2. Try running system file checker and see if it helps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310747

    Hope this helps.

  • Vincent, thanks a lot for your help.

I started “Volume Shadow Copy” - ''Windows Backup service'' (were not active) and then I run system file checker (sfc/scannow). Unfortunately, I received the same message '' The specified object was not found (0x80042308)''.
