  • Question

  • Is there an upgrade path from CE 4.2 to Windows Embedded POSReady?

Looking to upgrade some POS terminals instead of purchasing new.

  • These are two completely different operating systems. It comes down to what the hardware supports:

    • What is the processor in the POS Terminal? If ARM processor, then POSREady will not work. You would have to look to Linux OS or go to the latest Windows CE.
    • How much hard drive space is in the terminal?
    • How much RAM is in the terminal?

  • Processor is AMD Geode SC3200 Processor

no hard drive, Disk on Chip

    Only 1Gb memory

Is there a way to upgrade the OS from CE 4.2 to CE 6.x?

  • POSReady based on Windows XP might work, but I wouldn't recommend it. XP is EOL and there is not enough system performance to run.  The latest version based on POSReady 7 and WEI will not run very well or at all.

For Windows CE questions, I suggest that you post to the CE forums:
