Restore Dpm2010 backups with Dpm2007 possible? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have Dpm2010 RC running , Because of a license issue we possible have to
go back to Dpm2007. Before we are going to to that: Is it possible to use the Dpm2010 backups within Dpm 2007?
    Thanks

  • Hello,

I would try to avoid going back, the restore options are going to be very very limited.

If you are strictly using tape backups, yes, the tapes are backwards compatible between DPM 2010 and DPM 2007.  You will need to build a new DPM 2007 server and import the tapes manually, then inventory the tapes before you can restore from them.  Retores will be limited to restoring to a network share, not back to original location, and application data exchange and SQL DB's will be flat files, so you will need to get them back onto the application servers manually.

If you are using disk based backups, you cannot move those back to DPM 2007 as there is no way to restore a DPM 2010 Database to a DPM 2007 server so it can use the disk based recovery points.

  • Thanks Mike for your answer, very clear. ..We are using only tape backups. But if the restore options are that limited I hope we don''t have to going back to dpm2007 and we hopefully gonna buy the Dpm 2010 licenses so we can upgrade the current Rc verson with the final version.
