Retail upgrade versions if Windows 7 and a question RRS feed

  • Question

  • Vista home premium x64 wifi/ethernet on my HP laptop are not functional due to a faulty Norton Internet Security '09upgrade.  SP2 did not fix it.  Windows 7 RC on a different partition works well, has wifi, etc. If I go strictly with 7 RC and remove Vista, will I be able to buy the upgrade version of 7 when it's released at retail (assuming there will be a choice between full and upgrade versions as with XP, etc.)?

    Bummer about Vista and Norton...

As far as the retail version - and upgrades go... We don't have any word etched in stone as yet on that - but it would be a safe assumption that there will be a full and an upgrade version for at least Windows 7 Home Premium and Ultimate.

As far as installing on your system - it's a fair bet that it would likely be best to do a CLEAN installation regardless of what you've got installed at the time. You still qualify for an upgrade version - even if Vista is toast. As far as how the installation will go - that hasn't entirely been determined. Stay tuned for more info..

  • Jward52,

As Wolfie2k6 stated that while we do not know if Windows7RC will be offered in "uprade" or "full" versions as that information has not been released at this time, it would be best to perform a clean install as opposed to an upgrade. Please remember, the RC will expire June 1, 2010, and the bi-hourly shutdowns will begin on March 1, 2010. You’ll need to rebuild your test PC to replace the OS and reinstall all your programs and data.

I would recommend that you perform  regular backup in prepartation for the swtich next year. For more information head on over to Microsoft Springboard for tricks, tips, videos and more!
