Comptability WSS 3.0 toward Windows Server 2008 RRS feed

    Currently WSS 3.0 is a package to be installed seperately on a Windows Server 2003 platform. If I have understand everything, this will change for Windows Server 2008. WSS will be encorporated in the platform and there will be no need for a seperate install.

     

    Does this mean, this is a new WSS 2008 version?

     

    The background is: if a WSS 3.0 implementation is done now on a Windows Server 2003 platform, will everything be upgradable fluently towards a Windows Server 2008 platform? Will we need to redo some stuff? Will the WSS 3.0 implementation team need to do an intervention for this, or shall this be possible by the system administrator upgrading the Windows platform?

    The version of WSS that is at present "included" (we can fight about what that means) in the beta versions of Windows Server 2008 is a perfectly standard WSS 3.0.

     

    If past experience (Windows Server 2003 R2) is anything to go on, if WSS 3.0 SP1 is released before Windows Server 2008 is released than it will probably include the SP1 version of WSS 3.0 but that's all.

     

    I don't see a released version of Windows Server 2008 (unless it is delayed by several years) including anything but a normal WSS 3.0 and so you will have no problems moving anything. At least no more than you have now moving a copy of WSS 3.0 from one server (farm) to another.
