Security updates for kernel mode drivers on Windows 8.1 OS causing our .NET Windows form application to freeze when pop-up or modal dialogs are opened RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there,

The following security updates from Microsoft on Windows 8.1 OS are causing freezing issues with our application (pop-ups/ modal dialogs). The application is a .NET 3.5 Windows forms application.

    KB Fix - 3168965
    KB Fix - 3153199
    KB Fix - 3161664

We found that the issue is caused by the security update for kernel mode drivers that are updating the following file - Win32k.sys - Any update to this file on or after May 10, 2016 through Windows Automatic update is causing the problem.

Our clients do not agree to turn off the automatic windows updates.

Is it possible to setup a GPO to change the Windows Update settings for all PCs in the domain to stop all the new updates to the file Win32k.sys?

Is Microsoft aware of this issue & is there a plan to provide a resolution to this issue in terms of a future KB fix?

    Thanks & Regards,
