Automating Lync Client Setup/Adding Contacts RRS feed

  • Question

  • Ok, this is a doozie.

Scenario: Lync Server 2010 running on a single server standard setup, on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise member server. I have it installed and working. DNS and SRV is configured correctly. SIP addressess have been added to all users. The clients will ONLY be using this for chat and for Outlook connectivity such as scheduling and file sharing.

Now, as it stands I have to configure each client. This means installing the client, logging in. then I have to manually add each person who will be using Lync to the persons Outlook contact list, by opening up the GAL and adding to contacts. Once that is done, I have to search the users from within the Lync client, and add them under all contacts. Then I have to wait for the sync, and message from each client to get them up and running.

This is far too much work. I have created a startup script to silently install the client.

    What I need is:

    • Each user to have all users from the GAL added to their Outlook Contacts List.
    • Lync Clients to automatically add all other users under the All Contacts field

I would like for a new user to open Lync, have it automatically sign them in. I would like for their All Contacts list to be populated with anyone who has Lync installed, in other words any Lync User that I added in control panel.

This is only for about 20 users, but adding 20 contacts, then 20 users, and ensuringing that they communicate for 20 different people would take me forever. Thanks in advance.

  • Sorry, a little bit more information.

Running Exchange 2007 single domain single forest on SBS 2008 SP2.

Clients are running Vista Business or Win 7 Professional. They are running a mix of Outlook 2007, but most are 2010.
