Portal Server 2003 + Office 2010 - Edit a document that has custom column data, save back, choice fields show 'Undefined' RRS feed

  • Question

  • Very weird behavior here (and yes, I know it's not a supported combination!).

    • User opens a word document stored in a Portal Server 2003 (which already has custom column data)
    • User edits content of document
    • User clicks save
    • When the SharePoint page reloads, any choice field shows: 'Undefined'
    • User clicks 'Edit Details'
    • Pop up appears, with all field data present
    • User makes no changes, but clicks save
    • Field data appears again

Seems to happen with some users, not others. Ideas?

  • Hi Paul,

The machines that are affected, do you know if they are running Office 2010 x86 or Office 2010 x64?  I did quick test here using SPS 2003 and Office 2010 x86 and did not see my custom field get overwritten.
