RE: Group policy preferences not taking effect

  • hi. i require my windows 8.1 clients to receive settings relating to default file associations via a gpo, but although i specify the extension and the path the setting does not take effect. i know the policy as a whole is being read, since i also set some folder options which are working great. are these settings available for windows 8.1?

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your post.

Based on my knowledge, we could use GP Preferences (=GPP) to perform this task. And also simply create a "File type" item within "Folder options" and specify the needed parameters.

     Here is the related articles.

  • i followed that post with no result. currently the .js file is associated with no application and i want it associated with notepad++ for example. i put in all the details and nothing gets added or replaced. The other post you refer to works, but since copyprofile=true does not work in sccm 2012 r2 you would have to run that command everytime a user logs on since doing it for the default profile while building with mdt is not copied to the final deployed image. this makes sense since you specifically told it not to copy from the default profile.

this is the single most frustrating thing for me at the moment, since i have several tasks i need to perform for all users. i have tried scheduled tasks, but they also fail to run for some reason.

is there any other way to get this done?
