Broken Microsoft download -Slipstreaming XP SP3 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I'm trying to upgrade XP Home Sp3 (original disc was sp3) to XP Pro.

I purchased an old XP Pro (Gold) version (which balked at a direct upgrade to XP Pro because of its

prior date), and needed to add service packs.

I've read about "slipstreaming" and I was able to create an XP Pro SP2 disc

after downloading the XP SP2 Network Installation Package for IT Pros

from Microsoft. I used Autostream to produce the .iso file which I later

burned to a CD. This was a partial success for a first try at slipstreaming.

However, I went to the XP SP3 Microsoft site (www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?&id=24)

for the XP SP3 download (after I found that it existed!) and I tried to download that file without

success (windowsxp-kb936929-sp3-x86-enu.exe). It was listed at over 300MB, but repeated

download attempts only managed to get to 64MB before termination. The result was a corrupted

    file.

Would someone at Microsoft look into this ?

Should this slipstreaming work to get an upgraded XP Pro SP3 installation?

    Thanks
