  • Hello we won to use FSCT fo test file production server, but read

We highly recommend that you run FSCT only in a test environment. To provide a fully automated process in a Windows test environment, FSCT formats the data volume without prompting you for confirmation. If you use FSCT in a production environment, you risk unintentional data loss. FSCT also passes the test domain adminstrator’s credentials in clear text on the wire.

Please tell me, what  I can do for use FSCT in the production?

  • FSCT is a file server capacity tool. We see customers use it to validate a deployment plan. To do so, FSCT does a number of things:
    1. create test users
    2. format the test volume(s)
    3. create shares and populate user home directory with data
    4. At run time, it will simulates users doing operations against a file server.
All these actions, could cause issues in production environment. For example, formatting the volume could cause data loss, running FSCT during busy hours could saturate the network.

For all these reasons and more, we do not want people run FSCT in production. If you want to validate a deployment plan, you should set up a test environment, also in test environment, you could get better measurement on the performance, since it is a more controlled environment.
