Exchange Mailbox Size RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear Guys

All of my user are using the exchange 2010 default mailbox size(2GB). But I am observing that some of my user have 80% mail attachment so 2GB is very little for them and they are keeping backup in archive folder in local PC after becoming mailbox full. Now I have decided to increase their mailbox size into 5GB. As per my user requirement they want to keep minimum six months mail in their inbox/sent items. I do not have larger mailbox experience in exchange. I do not know it will be technically wise, please advise.

    Thanks.

    Regards

  • hi,

You can increase the mailbox size limit. If you want to increase all users, you can modify the default limit on your mailbox database.

If you only want to increase some users' mailbox size, you should modify on each one.

How to increase you can see:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998353.aspx

In your case, if you want to increase the mailbox size limit to 5G, you can set the limit like this:

Issue warning  4.4G(must less that 5G)

    Prohibit send at (KB) 4.8G

Prohibit send and receive at (KB) 5G

    >>>As per my user requirement they want to keep minimum six months mail in their inbox/sent items.

I think you can use retention policy to achieve this.

  • Hi Mannan

You can set mailboxes larger than 2GB but when you start going over 4GB outlook might start giving you issues and you might want to look at setting outlook to online mode.

    Kind Regards
