Email Alerts Using Non Exchange Email Address RRS feed

  • Hi guys, Looking for a bit of help with this one. We have users that up until recently had an exchange account assigned to their Active Directory user account.  The email tab in AD had this address assigned to it which worked fine.  We have since moved over to a hosted email provider which means that we need to change the address that these alerts goto.

    We changed the address in AD to point to the new hosted address which has been syncronised into SharePoint.  We can now search users in SharePoint and this confirms the new address is the default email address.  However when we set and alert the alert goes to the old exchange mailbox.  No matter what address is set as the default this behaviour does not seem to change.

    Is there anything we are missing here? We cannot delete the original exchange email account at the moment so are just looking to simply change the email account the alerts are sent to.

  • Please check the outgoing email setting in SharePoint Central Admin. This should be changed to the hosted email server as well.

  • Hi there, That's already done. It appears to be wanting to send the email to the exchange mailbox account rather than the address specified. The only way I can think to stop this behaviour is to delete the mailbox. Cheers, J
