Apply Limits Project Professional ability to create new projects in PWA 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We need to limit the ability of PMs to create new projects in PWAor updating some custom fields using Project Professional but allow them to open and update existing projects and to use Project Professional to create local projects.

I tried customizaing the ribbon in Project Professional to not show the Project Informaiton screen to prevent them from entering required fields but when they save, they get the Project Information window anyway.

Is there a way to protect the Project Information contents from Project Professional?  To not allow projects created in Project Professional to be added to PWA?

  • This is actually two questions, so lets take one by one:

    1) To not allow projects created in Project Professional to be added to PWA?

The Category permission that controls this is : Save Project to Project Server. This will prevent any projects to be saved to project server. However, the downside is that this will also prevent any updates of existing projects(as defined in the category) . So, you need to control which projects they can update by defining the security category (like My Projects).

    2) Is there a way to protect the Project Information contents from Project Professional?

Again, the category permission that controls is Edit Project Summary Fields. Obviously this will prevent updates to existing projects as well (as defined in the category) . Since this is a category permission, you will need to define the category (or reuse the above) so that they can update the projects that you need them to.

    Hope that answers your questions.
