Transfer of large (>100 MB) files over the LAN/WAN RRS feed

  • Question

  • We've had recent trouble with some users unable to copy or open large files (>100 MB) from the network shared drives.  As a work-around, I used the info in KB947239 to temporarily disable the network interfaces TCP autotuning until the user is finished, when I go back in and re-enable it.

With the release of the Hotfix for Win7 and WinSer 2008 R2 (both w/SP1) - KB2775511, I wondered if one of the fixes in it would solve the above scenario?  Here's where I got the idea:

"Improves the SMB Service and TCP protocol components. These improvements work together with other improvements to help improve the overall networking performance on Windows 7 SP1-based and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1-based computers."

  • Hi,

It’s hard to say, but you can  install it and then check the performance.

  • True, but I don't have the experience or knowledge on how to setup, run and evaluate a test scenario.  I thought some of the experts out there had run into the issue I describe and would know if the hotfix, in part, addressed the underlying problem.
