Urgent help needed for exchange 2003 in sbs 2003 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

One week before in our HP PROLIANT ML370 G5 server with RAID5 one hard disk turned amber and we removed and it is working under degraded state until now.

Yesterday morning our users in the domain complained that mails are not going from their OUTLOOK connected to our sbs 2003 exchange .All the users are configured with psts. not osts .After checking the ESM it was found that all the mails were in queue and internet connectivity and smtp smart host all reachable. So the exchange services were restarted, at that we found that the information store is starting at last moment it stops with error 1068.

We restarted the server, it took a long time to reach the desktop and it is found that the information store is not started. What is observed is when the information store service is started the server totally hangs ; we had to make hard reset  the server a couple of times when we are troubleshooting.

After searching in internet we found that the information store edb files corruption leads to this symptom from the link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313184

and we are now repairing the database as per this document ; it crossed priv1 .edb successfully but for the past 4 hours pub1.edb and stm scanning database catalog is going on.

Please advise me how to proceed further since I have to make it ready tommorrow morning this production server

N.B: the database priv1.edb and its related files - 9 GB & pub1.edb and stm files -2 GB

  • Hi

Thanks for your support and the replies Successfully mounted the information store after reinstalling the exchange server sp2 over the same existing sp2 version.

and the document at this link http://www.petri.co.il/mount_exchange_database_when_e00log_is_missing.htm also helped me to bring back the information store  without any process of restoring the good backup.

And moreover Microsoft has to investigate &  update its solution database regarding these errors

"Operation terminated with error -1022 <JET_errDiskIO, Disk IO error>

"isinteg command saying initialising store failure"

    with the resolution at http://www.petri.co.il/mount_exchange_database_when_e00log_is_missing.htm

so that it will save hours of installation and restoring the backup ---- from my bitter experience of two days struggle which might be useful for others

All replies

  • You are in a Good Path.

Eseutil /p takes 5  Gb per hour.

    After that Gets over.

    Do run a Defrag

    Eseutil /d

    After Defrag is over.

To Do Logical Fixes for the Database.

    Run

Isinteg -s "Server Name" -fix -test Alltests

So that Your Doing the Recommended Procedure for Repairing the Databases

  • Hi

Thanks for your reply but in the repair process the priv1.edb which is around 9 GB got scanned immediately but the pub1.edb got stuck in the scanning process.

It crossed 12 % in 5 hours and I am totally helpless in this situation since the sbs 2003 screen is stuck for the past 4 hours .

    Please advise in this regard!

  • Hope you had a copy of it before.

You can open Task manager. View - Select Colums - I/O read bytes , I/O write bytes.

check eseutil is showing something or not.

    i mean it should change.

  • You can Force Reboot the Server. No other Option.

But Check System Logs. and Verify, You don't have any Disk Errors or anyother errors ?

  • We can't decide its just the Database.

Please go through the System Logs and app logs and verify the cause is database or something else.

if you see events like 623 or 107 then it might be database.

please have a look on your sys and app logs

    Run

Exchange best practices analyzer as well

Restore the database from a good backup.
