Chart with two datasets RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am working on with SSRS2008.
I have a chart built with a data set. now, i need to add one more filed to this chart and this field comes from different data set.
so, is it possible to generate a chart with two different data sets??

Pls help as this is very urgent for us.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Azhar,

The answer depends on what you're trying to bring in from the second dataset, and how you intend to use that value.  Data Regions (charts, tables, etc.) are bound to one dataset only, so you can't use fields from a second dataset in the same way as you can use the original fields.  You can reference fields from a another dataset in expressions, but you're limited to aggregates over that data.  For example, if you had a chart using DataSet1 and a field called Total in Dataset2, you could set the title of your chart to

    ="Dataset2 Total = " & Sum(Fields!OrderID.Value, "DataSet2")

If you want more than that, you'll have to find a way to join your datasets into one using the data sources join syntax (I can't give details here without knowing what type of data source you're connecting to).

    Hope that helps.
