MSINFO32.EXE command line parameters for Vista RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

    In our change management system, we're using automatic msinfo32.exe output and then parses this exhaustive output to SQL. Since XP and Server 2003 have extensive parameter options for the command line, this works very fine.

    How about Vista... seems the command line parameters and console output have been removed from this version 8.0 executable... Does anybody have a solution in mind, and no: we don't want to use systeminfo.exe instead  , we really need the device drivers, services status reports...

    Thanks a lot !

  • Hello Frederik,

    Please try this one line batch:

    "%CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo\MSINFO32.EXE" /report .\%COMPUTERNAME%.txt /categories +all

    Works for W2000 -> WXP -> W2003 -> Vista.

    Best regards,

  • Hi,

    I tried the following command in VISTA by creating a Process programmatically.

    Code Block

    "%CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo\MSINFO32.EXE" /categories +Components-ComponentsNetwork-ComponentsModem-ComponentsInfrared-ComponentsPorts-ComponentsProblemDevices-ComponentsPrinting-ComponentsKeyboard-ComponentsStorage-ComponentsMultimedia-ComponentsUSB-ComponentsInput-ComponentsMultimediaCDROM /report "c:\Temp\pcinfo.txt"

    It displayed a small progress bar window and it took almost 2+ minutes to create the pcinfo.txt file. The created file size was 500+ KB. It seems like the MSINFO32.exe is ignoring the /categories parameter. Because it created the report with +all categories information.

    Is there a patch or a solution to fix this issue in VISTA?

    Did you find any solution for Vista?

    Thanks,

  • After applying RTM SP1, the same thing occours. So effectively the answer is no.
