Change Desktop Background RRS feed

  • Question

  • I copied a jpeg picture in the Windows\Web\Wallpaper folder and want to make it the Desktop Background. I right-clicked on the Desktop and selected Personalize. I then selected Desktop Background. For Picture Location I selected Windows Wallpaper. The picture appears in the window. I selected the picture and clicked OK. However, the picture does not appear as the Desktop Theme. I went through this process a number of times, selecting the same picture, as well as different pictures in the Wallpaper folder, with the same result. I also tried right-clicking on the picture and selecting Set As Desktop Background. This also did not work. For the record, I am able to change the Desktop Theme color. The computer is a very basic model: Compac Celeron 3.2G running Windows Vista Basic with 512mb. Can anyone offer a solution?

  • I'm sort of in the same boat.

My personal preferences were wiped out over the weekend. While I still have access to my photos (including ones I thought I had lost), I no longer have an actual My Photos function after I hit the Start button. Hitting the Properties function doesn't work either. It doesn't seem to want to work after I hit Apply.

The computer is a BYO using Windows XP.

    Any solution for us?

  • Exactly the same problem has just started on my new-ish laptop, running Vista Home Premium SP1 with 1gb. I've deleted all desktop icons, and tried all the solutions offered in various other threads here, but with no success.

When I go to Personalise>Desktop Background>Choose a desktop background ..if I select Location and then Pictures from the drop down, the box below which should display the pics remains white. However when I hover the cursor over the box the details of the pics are displayed (not the pic itself, just a 'placeholder' rectangle). When I right click over any of them the usual options appear, including 'send to desktop', which creates the usual shortcut image.

If instead of selecting the drop down I choose Browse then I can display and select pictures as normal in the window that opens. But as soon as I hit 'OK', I'm back to the 'white box' with the picture 'placeholders' as above.

Neither does right click 'set as desktop background' work with any pic.

Reinstalling Vista isn't an option. Mine came ready installed, and the 'TechGuys' recovery/reinstall DVD disc I was prompted to make is corrupted - typical I/O error message.

The same pics I've tried as background display fine as a screensaver slide show.

    Any suggestions gratefully received.
