Virtualize the OS on my corporate laptop? RRS feed

  • Question

As many of us do, I need a place to quickly build up and tear down Operating Systems and test interoperability.  I have always wanted to do all of this on my laptop.  Now is the time and I wanted some advice.  My company issues an XP Laptop.

My thought is to use a tool (unknown at this time) to create a VHD Snapshot of the OS and all the applications.  My thinking was to use WINPE or something else that will image the OS in a VHD format.  From there I was going to install a Hypervisor.  I was thinking about installing Server 2012 w/Hyper-V, making it the host OS.  Then I could run the original VHD and still use my corporate laptop for creating new OS installs, next to my corporate required Operating System.

Any advice or experience would be helpful.
