Is there Windows Certificate services for Windows XP? RRS feed

  • I want to have SSL connection to a windows machine. For this I need to have a certificate from the windows machine. How to install Windows Certificate Services on a windows machine and get a certificate?

  • for a selfsigned certificate you don't need a fullblown CA. You can use makecert.exe

    Uou can also generate a CSR (certificate Signing Request) and send that to a CA (public or a standaloen or domain CA) and have it signed.

    The client will have to trust the signer. Most public CA's are trusted by default but their service is not free. This is however the recommended configuration for an internet accesible application.
