Latency in Mail Flow RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi MS geeks.

    we have been running recently with a huge latency in email flow on a brand new server.

    Its being running Exchange 2016 on Windows 2016 (Not a DC :))

    As per message headers, X-MS-Exchange-Transport-EndToEndLatency has a value of more than 5-6-10 minutes (each time differently).

    Sometimes the email flow is normal, but sometimes there are delays as of 30-45minutes. Even on internal emails.

    An error seen into Queue viewer is

    LastError     : [{LED=451 4.4.397 Error communicating with target host. -> 421 4.2.1 Unable to connect -> SocketConnectionRefused: Socket error code 10061};{MSG=}

    What would you suggest to check ?

  • Could it be antivirus issue? Are you using mailware agent/software?

  • Hi,

    Thanks for contacting our forum.

    Does this issue affect all of the users or specific or random?

    It’s recommended to get the message tracking log for the deleyed messages with the command below:

    Get-MessageTrackingLog –ResultSize Unlimited –Sender "sender@contoso.com"  -MessageSubject "subject"| fl >c:\MTL.txt

    In the log, we can see the message info part as below:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    MessageInfo   : 2017-09-29T08:14:42.156Z;SRV=ex2013.test.com:TOTAL-SUB=0.188|SA=0.078|MTSSDA=0.010|MTSSDC=0.0

                              11|MTSSDMO=0.063;MTSS|MTSSD;SRV=ex2013.test.com:TOTAL-HUB=0.265|UTH=0.002|SMRDI=0.010|SMRCL=0

                              .192|SMRC=0.193|SMR=0.203|QS=0.013|CATSM-Malware

                              Agent=0.047|CATSM=0.048;CAT|CATRS|CATRS-Transport Rule Agent

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    We could check in which step of the transport process the message cost too much time.

    Please also check the event log to see if any backpressure events like 1500x, and post out in detail if exist.

    Hope it helps.

    Regards,

    Jason Chao

  • @Alexey,

    Only Windows Defender is running. No additional av/malware software installed.

    @Jason,

    It affects all email flow, including internal - e.g. sending to a teammate.

    I created a custom view, but no events like 1500x - 150xx
