  • You can do it with the built-in tools, but it can involve several ‘passes’ depending upon the positions of the partitions in Disk Management. Here are two ways to extend one partition using space from an adjoining partition:

Right-click Computer > Manage > Storage > Disk Management to show the current partitions from left to right.

EXTEND A PARTITION ON THE LEFT
To extend the partition on the left, which we’ll call 1 by shrinking the one immediately to its right (2), you must shrink 2 to create unallocated space on its right. Create, name and format this unallocated space (3) and copy the data from 2 to 3 (new partition). Now delete partition 2 to give contiguous unallocated space that can be added to 1 using Extend Volume. Finally, change number 3’s drive letter to what it was before making the changes.

EXTEND A PARTITION ON THE RIGHT
To extend the partition on the right, which we’ll call 2 by shrinking the one immediately to its left (1), you must shrink 1 to create unallocated space on its right. Create, name and format this unallocated space (3), copy the data from 2 to 3 (new partition). Now delete partition 2 to give contiguous unallocated space that can be added to 3 using Extend Volume. Finally, change number 3’s drive letter to what it was before making the changes.
