  • Hi,

First, in WSUS 2012, we no longer use http://servername:8530/iuident.cab to detect WSUS's connection to the client computer. Therefore, it is normal for your client computer not to access the WSUS server through this link.

Then, your client computer cannot receive updates through the WSUS server, which I suspect may be due to the client computer not applying the correct Group Policy. It is recommended to go to the client computer check group policy applied.

If the client computer applies Group Policy correctly, it does not receive the appropriate update. You might consider modifying the following Group Policy to increase the frequency of update detection.
    -[Automatic Updates detection frequency]
    (Location: Group Policy Management Editor\Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update)

If the client computer does not apply correct Group Policy, it is recommended to check the Group Policy status first to the WSUS server. Or you can consider deleting this group policy and rebuilding it.

If you have any further questions, please contact me.

    Regards,
    Rita

  • Hi,

First, since Windows Server 2012 and beyond, the WSUS version has been integrated with the operating system. If you're using the Windows 10 operating system, don't worry about WSUS version selection.

Then, installing Active directory on a Server 2012 R2, and then installing WSUS role on Server 2016 still works in my opinion.

    Rita
