Command for setting the Default Retention Policy? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have one Retention Policy called 'Default Retention Policy'. When a useradmin creates a new mailbox in EMC I would like the Retention Policy to be ticked and 'Default Retention Policy' selected.

The aim is so useradmins don't forget to select the retention policy. Even better, a way to set this option as default so the tick box doesnt need to be selected.

Also, is there an equivelant option for 'Default Sharing Policy'?

  • Hi,

Retention Policy can only be linked at mailbox level.

For new mailbox, you can create a script including the new-mailbox andSet-Mailbox -RetentionPolicy to create mailbox.

Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

  • Hello,

in the "New mailbox" wizard there is an option to add a Retention Policy to the new mailbox. It's located under "Mailbox settings".

As an alternative you can use the EMS cmdlet New-Mailbox with the parameter -RetentionPolicy.

I don't think it's possible that the wizard selects your policy automatically without user interaction.

    Greetings,

    Toni

  • Thanks - aware of the options but I'm looking to assign default retention policy automatically without useradmin having to remember to apply.

Would be good if this could be clarified?

    Thanks,
