Specific permission to discussion boards for a access group RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have a query on permissions.

We have three groups, admin, visitors and members. Visitors are pretty much read only acccess across the whole site. Where they would need write access is under the forums section on the main page. I have enabled the 'contribute' permission level for that discussion list. When I enable contribute for them, this also enables the ability to delete their posts and delete other users posts, which we don’t want. It also enables them to create a new forum which again we don’t want.

How can this be limited to just enable adding a post but not making any other deletions or creations of new forums

    Thanks

    Manal

  • Hello Manal,

Users Contribute permission level will get option for deleting as well.

    Create a new Permission Level

Go to  Site Settings -> Site Permissions -> Permissions Levels (in the ribbon) - > Add a permissions level.

In this page for the new permission level, select the following permissions (under the List Permissions section)

    1. Add Items
    2. View Items
    3. View Application Pages

And use this new permissions level for your discussion board.

    Hope this works.

I used this for a custom list and works fine..Never tried for Discussion List. hope it works
