SC-DPM 2016 Cannot remove missing volumes. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all, a recent SAN crash at our DR site wiped out the LUNs that DPM's short term to disk storage were located on. Every time I try to right click and remove the volumes, it crashes the console and errors with:

Connection to the DPM service has been lost.

Review the application event log for information about a possible service shutdown. Verify that the following services are not disabled:
          DPM
          DPM Replication Agent
          SQLAgent$MSSQLSERVER
          MSSQL$MSSQLSERVER
          Virtual Disk Service
          Volume Shadow Copy

  • Hello,

Run command prompt as Administrator and run DPMSync.exe -sync on your DPM Server. After the sync, try to remove the missing volume from DPM. This should fix your problem.

  • Just so this is here...  If you don't care about the data on the drives, this will work.  When you replace the drives and bring them online, they may come online as dynamic.  I just went through and converted those to basic disks and those missing drives went away.  Once they went away, I was able to add the storage to DPM with no trouble.  Otherwise, I was going to have to use disk manager to delete several hundred partitions that DPM had created.
