add a volume path from cmd prompt? RRS feed

  • Question

  • So there's an amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing app, simply titled "Everything" that helps you (almost) instantly locate any local media (a must-have for digital hoarders like me :). There's even a portable version (I'm hooked on lightweight registry, minimizing context-menu registry-entry creation and all that "full install" shizzle).

One limitation I've noticed with portable vs full is the included volumes - I use a shared (virtual) volume, "LocalBigStore" {200GB}, mapped to c:\LBS, like so

The issue is, with portable everything, I can't add a "folder volume", like C:\Localbigstore

In this scenario, I don't mind adding a drive-letter alias (temporarily), and would like to know if this is easy, ie if there's an exe I can call (like I can 'label c: "test-temp vhd"), as oppose to going via diskmgmt.msc to add the alias, ie

3 clicks away after running diskmgmt.msc

I guess it's also do-able via diskpart, not sure how I'd cmd that bat operation...

    Thoughts welcome wisened ones...

  • Hi Jonny,

Thanks for your sharing. Besides, for the convenience of others, here is the reference for diskpart command line:
