Hi Fabian,
Thanks. My build was a fresh one and I had the fix even before installing SP2010. I am connecting to the site from SPD2010 installed on a Win7 client. I am not doing this from the server.
As a last resort, I installed SPD2010 on the server and it worked.
So the answer to this issue is that if you have SPD2010 TP or any other build other then Beta2 build, then you need to uninstall, delete the reg keys - basically remove all traces of previous builds or install SPD2010 on a fresh Win7 build - installing on server at the moment does not make sense, but I did to test my theory.
Answer: Fresh install only of SPD2010 resolves my problem.

Hey Alpesh,
Did u tweet this? lol
I had the same problem, until I read Jie Li's blog and saw there was a fix for it posted on MSDN.

After installing the Fix after my base install of WIN 2008 R2 (if that is indeed what you are using) mine worked.
Good Luck.

Alpesh, FWIW, I cleaned off my Win7 64-bit machine that had all TP stuff and re-installed all the Office 2010 Beta stuff (64-bit) along with SPD 2007. I just rebuilt my SP2010 farm with Beta bits on R2, and I was able to connect to my site from SPD2010 Beta on the first try from the Win7 machine.

did you use any special tools to clean off tech preview bits? I have tried and tried, but I guess that my win7 install is all 'stuffed' now :)

No, I just did uninstall - no hacks or registry changes.
