WSUS-2019 - failing to download updates RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have set up a new Win-2019 standard server, patched it up to date. Configured wsus to download the updates locally to E:\WSUS . I observe only metadata is downloading & not the actual downloads. Need help

  • Hi Harsha Girimaji,

If you need to download the update file to the WSUS server, make sure the option shown in the screenshot is selected as "Store update files locally on this server".

In addition, when WSUS server sync from Microsoft Update or Upstream WSUS server, it only downloads the metadata of the update which stores in SUSDB, when we approve the update, WSUS server begin to download update file into Content folder.

Hope the above can help you.

    Yic

  • Hi,

Please check the permissions on the WSUSContent folder. The local machine (SYSTEM if on the same server) must have Full Access to the WSUSContent folder for downloads to work.

In some cases, mentioning the impact of firewalls on WSUS getting update files, try to turn off the Windows Advanced Firewall and try again. Once you know if you can download with the firewall off turn the firewall back on.

If Windows Advanced Firewall is not enabled, try turning it on to check if an update file is available download.

    Regards,
    Yic

  • Hi,

Are you able to share which Microsoft Websites were white-listed?

Does anyone know what Microsoft URL's need to be added to the firewall/proxy for the 'Windows Updates' to download successfully on the WSUS Server?

    Thanks
