Setup Failover Cluster as target RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Guys,

I am evaluating the new MVMC 3 and did some converts from ESX to Hyper-V.

There is one very important question for me. Is it possible to target the converted VM to a Hyper-V Failover Cluster? As far as I see it it's only possible to set a single host as a target.

Sure it's possible to set a host of a failover cluster as the target but then it's only in the local Hypervisor. Not in the Failover Cluster.

    Is there a trick?

    Best Regards,

    Adrian

  • Hi Adrian,

What you could do is use PowerShell to provide that capability.  Basic steps would be something like:

    1. Download the .OVF and .VHDXs using the Get-MvmcSourceVirtualMachine cmdlet.

    2. Use the New-MvmcVirtualMachineFromOvf to create a VM targeting the CSV location.

    3. Use Add-ClusterVirtualMachineRole to make the VM highly available.

I have done something similar using PowerShell to take a VM from VMware and push it into a SCVMM Cluster.

    Best Regards
