Project Server 2010: Creating New projects - Can they Be approved? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have a question about creating new projects.

We want to provide a select group of users the ability to create new projects. However, we want those projects not to show up or be active until they get approved by a project manager.

    Is this possible?

If so, any guidence to least privledge permissions as well as the procedure would be helpfull.

    Thank you in advance!

  • HI TQMA,

Yes its possible, through the Demand Management process of Project Server 2010. You need to create a Project workflow which can direct any New Project request to the group of users (create a Project approvers group using Manage Group from server settings and add your users to that group). Once the New Project request will be approved, you can publish the project to make it visible to all the users.

Now there are several resources available to help you create a workflow,i would suggest to download the SDK - there is a sample workflows included with the source code and help you understand in  great depth: Project Server 2010 SDK .

Also to understand the concept you can go through msdn article about Demand Management .

To read how to configure your development environment: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee767686.aspx

And to quickly start with, i would suggest you to use the Dynamic workflow included in the starter kit. Go through the Brian blog about the Dynamic workflow solution starter.

    Hope this helps.
