Migrate SCCM 2012 R2 Accros Forest RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have to migrate SCCM 2012R2 infra from an old forest to a new one. I 'm wondering how The DP can be migrated to the new SCCM 2012 R2 Infra and how i can maintain all distributed packages on this DP after migration and still using the same DP in the new forest withing the new SCCM infra.

All computer and user accounts will be migrated using ADMT, only SCCM 2012 will be installed on a new server in a new forest and we do a side-by-side migration.

    Thanks

  • It's easiest (best IMO) to build a new DP and use content pre-staging to transfer the content from one to the other directly without having to go over the WAN.

  • If i understand correctly you install a new primary site in the new domain. You will add new content to the that site.

I don't see how you can add the old DP with the old content in the new infra and keep the old content.

You could migrate the DP over remove the role and install the DP role from the new primary site and distribute the new content.

Honestly it will be a lot easier to simply get a new DP up and if you can't copy the content over the wan or lan simply use prestage content.

SO in short you can't migrate a DP from one site to a new site and keep distributing the old content like it was the new content.

  • Thank you Frederic,

I found in the following article http://configmgrblog.com/2013/08/08/reassigning-distribution-points-in-configmgr-2012-r2/  as there is the sharing option that can be used during cohabitation phase, but I’m not sure if the DP can be reassigned correctly to the new Site.

    Thanks
