Topology Views offen emty RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

if I look in Monitoring/Exchange 2003/Topology I see Exchange Service with an empty ring.

Same in Microsoft Windows Active Directory/Topology Views. All the time just the green ring. Nothing to open.

Also I can not find an "over all"-Topology-View witch shows me all my Server / Clients and there state + the possibility if something is wrong to go deeper into the maschine to see the problem.

    What I have to do?

The discovery rules to enable population of the topology diagrams for Active Directory and Exchange are diabled by default. This is part of Microsoft's targeting Essentials to be as simple as possible to get going out of the box, sometimes called "Smart Defaults". For more advanced users that want richer monitoring instumentation, there is extra stuff to do.

To enable the views, you need to create Overrides for a few rules, that Enable the rules for your AD and Exchange server(s). To see what you have to do, consult the System Center Operations Manager 2007 Product Documentation at

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/opsmgr/bb498235.aspx.

The Active Directory Management Pack Guide and the Exchange Management Pack Guide explain what you need to do. There are also other Exchange monitoring features you can enable such as Mailflow by following the procedures in the guide.

  • Hi,

If you want to check topoloy views for Microsoft Windows Active Directory, then we have to override the releated settings.

Please navigate to Authoring-Objects Discoveries, type "Topology" in the "Look for" blank and click "Find Now".

In the below list, please find "AD Topology Directory" under "Active Directory Domain" and "Active Directory Domain",etc.

Still in that view, you can find the "Exchange 2003 topology Discoveries".

    Hope it helps.

These issue is specific to Essentials (enabling the discoveries for AD and Exchange are not necessary in Operations Manager 2007). There are a few other out-of-the-box tuning items you should be aware of as well.
