Error connecting secondary DPM to Primary DPM 2012R2 u8 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Attempting to protect primary DPM Server with a secondary server in a untrusted domain.

    Receive this error:

    Attach protected computer xc-dpm failed:
Error 32689: The user account MICROSOFT$DPM$Acct is already in use.
Recommended action: DPM requires a unique and exclusive user account to communicate with the workgroup server.
Goto the protected computer and rerun setdpmserver.exe with the unique username. Then retry this operation with the new user credentials.

    setdpmserver isn't in the bits folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012 R2\DPM\DPM

I used the same account name for each DPM Server - I've done quite a bit of research and have not found a solution....

  • Solved the issue by joining the secondary DPM to domain.

DPM is is certainly not as easy as point at server and backup, not sure why it needs to be as difficult as it is to install.
