GPO not applying to targeted users.

  • I'm at a total loss to resolve the issue I'm having.

I have a GPO created and applied to my users OU that adds a URL shortcut to the desktop.   (simple stuff)

I have set a Security filter on the GPO to target the GPO to a global security group which contains some subgroups so I limit the users that get the icon based on job function need.

The GPO is not applying to the users.   I've done RSoP and it doesn't appear to be applying.    But it is properly linked and targeted.   There are no errors in Event Viewer about this GPO.

Any ideas where to start figuring out why this isn't working?

  • If the security filtering only contains the security group, you need to go to the delegation tab of the GPO and add authenticated users with read access to the GPO. Make sure apply group policy is unticked to stop it applying to everyone. Click on the advanced tab to edit the settings as below.
