How do I install a certificate to Trusted People > Local Computer in Windows 8? RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I go through the MMC, I add the snap in for certificate. When I go through the import process for Trusted People, in Win 7 you can click "show physical stores" and "local computer" becomes an option for "trusted people". I don't see this in Win 8. I see registry, enterprise, and group policy. Which do I use, or how do I get "local computer" to show up?

  • Please follow below steps to resolve this issue.

    1. Go to start > then right click on command prompt icon select run as 'administrator'

    2. go to the path where the certificate is stored in hard disk.

for e.g. if your certificate file is on c drive test folder then type 'cd test'

    3. type the name of your certificate file with extension and enter.

Suppose your file name is abc.crt then type abc.crt and press enter.

    4. Click on the Install Certificate button, Next

5.Select Place all certificates in the following store, Browse

6.Select Show physical stores, scroll up, expand Trusted Root Certification Authorities, select Local Computer, OK, Next, Finish

  • Hello. I've followed the above steps, but "local computer" is still not an option to select. I have the following to choose from: Registry, Third-Party, Group Policy, Enterprise, and Smart Card.

Also, I need to be able to add this to the Trusted People > Local Computer (not the above mentioned Trusted Root Certification Authorites). In Trusted People, I have Registry, Group Policy, and Enterprise to choose from.

This is Windows 8 Enterprise on a virtual if it makes any difference.
