Documents no longer accessible in SharePoint RRS feed

  • Question

  • Running MOSS 2007 and ran into a problem this week. Users are reporting intermittent problems in accessing documents in SharePoint. One of three things happens when they click on a document in a document library:

     - Document opens up blank and has no content.
Saving the file locally shows the full content but trying to access it through SharePoint brings it up as blank. Performing an IISRESET on the server seems to work for a little while but the issue returns OR

    - User receives an "Internet Explorer cannot display
the webpage" error - this usually happens when they try to use a direct link to the file (http://company.com/site/library/file.xxx) The issue is fairly widespread in that is appears to be affecting many sites and many libraries.

    - User receives "Excel cannot open the file <filename> because the file format or file extension is not valid.  Verify that hte file has not been corrupted and that the file extension mateches the format fo the file."

Any ideas? I checked both the front end web server and the DB server and neither are out of space on any of the drives.<br/>

  • Hi,

    This needs troubleshooting.

When this issue happens do not go for IISRESET straight away first capture the ULS logs under verbose mode also have a look at the logs at db level. Check the event viewer and also running timer jobs at that time.

I hope this will help you out
