Resource partial assignment RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like to partially assign resources to a task (i.e, task is 40 hours and the resource would contribute 10 hours so assignment would be 25%). How can I do this in Project Online (PWA)? So far I have only been able to do it by opening the project in Project, editing the resource assignment in Project then save back to PWA.

You can do this but it is very clunky in PWA. First you assign the resource in a task view, then you can edit the assignment units in an assignment view. You will need to add the Units field to an assignment view to edit it.

It is not an elegant solution, but it is doable. You are much better off using the Project Client for this type of assignment editing. Besides being much more powerful, if you have a lot of this type of scheduling challenge, using the web will take you much more time to accomplish your goals.

  • Brian,

You cannot assign units as far as I know, but you can switch to an assignment view (like Assignment Work) in PWA, and change the work value for the "assignment", so that it will be partial hours for the resource.
